Resources For Referring Providers
Kartini Clinic offers rule-out consults for patients of concern but uncertain diagnosis, and work with referring providers on an appropriate treatment plan, if needed.
We are often asked when a patient should considered for a referral to us:
- if, after several weeks (please note, not months), their weight continues to go down or stabilizes at an unhealthy low number despite active interventions
- daytime heart rate is 50 BPM or below in the setting of weight loss and/or a known eating problem, regardless of athletic training
- a history of fainting in the setting of a child who has or may have eating issues
For higher levels of care we accept medically unstable patients for inpatient admission to Randall Children’s Hospital. Patients on our service are supervised and rounded on exclusively by our pediatricians, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Clinical updates are available through Epic EMR or via fax, according to the preferring provider’s preference.
All patients are placed on an age-appropriate medical ward rather than on a psychiatric ward, and assisted by nursing staff specifically trained to treat eating disordered patients. We accept boys and girls up to 18 years of age. We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics’ hospitalization criteria for anorexia and bulimia nervosa.
If you would like to speak to one of our physicians directly please call our office at 503-249-8851 and identify yourself as a physician or referring provider. If one of our pediatricians is not available immediately, we will return your call the same day.
