
Julie O'Toole MD MPH
is founder and Chief Medical Officer of Kartini Clinic. Dr. O’Toole is a board certified pediatrician and has been in private pediatric practice for more than two decades. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Medicine, and NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association). She also has a master’s degree in public health (international health). As well as being an avid gardener and bookworm, she is the proud parent of four grown children and grandmother of four active boys and four delightful girls.

Naghmeh Moshtael, MD
is Kartini Clinic’s Medical Director. A board certified pediatrician, Dr. Moshtael is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a certified IAEDP provider. She completed her pediatric residency at Oregon Health & Science University and served as Chief Resident there until joining us full time in 2006. She became Kartini Clinic’s first full partner in 2009. Dr Moshtael holds a master’s degree in international studies and community health development. She is the proud parent of a daughter, and her hobbies include gardening, knitting and traveling around the world with her husband and child.

Shanna Greene
is Kartini Clinic’s Chief Operating Officer. She worked in a general pediatric practice for eleven years before helping to found Kartini Clinic in 1998. Shanna has a Bachelor of Science from Portland State University. She enjoys taking turns dancing in the rain with her children and exploring Portland’s many parks with her energetic dog, Harley Quinn. The most recent additions to the family are two rescue cats, Malcolm and Luna.

Sheila Scrobogna
is our Clinic Director. She graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and received her Master’s of International Communication at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. After finishing her degree at Macquarie she traveled around the world and has now returned to Portland with her husband to be closer to family. She loves being outside in the sun, traveling, going on adventures, playing with her dog, and cuddling her two children.

Morgan O'Toole
is another member of Kartini’s “Reed Mafia”, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Reed College in 1994 and a Master’s from Monterey Institute of International Studies (now the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey). After stints in New York and London, he returned in 2003 to the greener pastures of the Pacific Northwest. After working in various positions at Kartini Morgan was appointed CEO in 2008.

Megan Maples
is the Director of our Business Office. She grew up in Boise, Idaho and moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and traveling.

Sherrill Gandsey RN
is our Program Nurse. Before joining the Kartini team, she was a pediatric ICU nurse for Legacy Emanuel/Randall Children’s Hospital for over 20 years. Sherrill has worked with the Kartini team for over 10 years and is the staff liaison between the hospital and clinic. In her spare time, Sherrill is a Disaster Nurse volunteer for the American Red Cross and most recently assisted back east with families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Her hobbies are dancing, tennis, boating and most important spending time with her family.

Leslie Weisner LMFT
is a Family Therapist. Raised in Connecticut, she earned a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Southern Connecticut State University. Leslie has been a therapist for more than 20 years, working almost exclusively with eating disorders. She enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and their dog Tulip.

Steve Nemirow
is one of the founders of Kartini Clinic. After gamely serving in many capacities Steve retired from active duty in 2011 but continues to assist as the Clinic’s legal counsel. Steve graduated from Reed College and Hastings College of Law. He is the parent and step-parent of 3 daughters and a grown son. When he’s not in the Kartini Clinic, he paints pictures and writes poems.

Amy Stauffer
is a Milieu Manager at Kartini Clinic (SUN unit). She earned a Psychology degree from Westminster College in Missouri and moved to Portland in 1996. Amy resides with her son Beckham, boxer Ruby and her therapy hamster named Pansy. Amy enjoys almost anything outdoors; particularly exploring Oregon’s geology. She spends most of her free time on rock collecting adventures.

Alex Garcia MA
is a Milieu Therapist at Kartini Clinic (MOON unit). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University, and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Webster University in the Netherlands. Alex has experience with case management, as well as clinical group experience serving patients with intensive psychiatric illnesses. He enjoys singing with Portland’s Oregon Repertory Singers and like many people who live in the Pacific Northwest, he loves hiking, camping, backpacking, river days, exploration of Portland’s beautiful surroundings, and dogs!

Lisa Peacock LMFT
is a Family Therapist at Kartini Clinic. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in both Oregon and California. She is founder and executive director of The Peacock Foundation, an animal assisted therapy program for children in Los Angeles, CA. She is the proud trainer of a menagerie of animals all of whom visit the children at Kartini Clinic to provide Animal Assisted Interventions.

Lindsey Weber
is our Kitchen Coordinator. Lindsay grew up in Indiana and attended Purdue University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Public Horticulture. In 2006 she packed all of her belongings into her car and headed to Portland. She spends most of her time hanging out with her sweetheart, Sean, and their two cats, Hooligan and Lucile. She enjoys listening to music, singing, dancing, working on puzzles, and and wowing everyone with her extensive knowledge of song lyrics.

Ashley Rogers
is Kartini’s Utilization Review Specialist. An Ohio native, Ashley worked in the design industry in New York City between college and graduate school. She also taught college Art History before spending several years in the health insurance field. She enjoys reading, cooking, playing with her dog, and exploring the Pacific Northwest.

Mary Gunesch
is working with schools throughout the Northwest to help them support Kartini students as they strive to smoothly transition out of, and back into, their hometown schools. Mary is a licensed Oregon school administrator and teacher with many years of experience. She had led schools through accreditation, taught at the graduate level, and published articles about learning. Mary has a Master’s degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland. Her favorite activities include reading, skiing, and hiking up mountains with her dog, Boomer. Mary and her husband are the proud parents of two children: one currently in college and one recent college graduate.

Olivia Rangel
is an Intake/HR Administrative Assistant at Kartini. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature with a focus on Latin American Studies and Brazilian Portuguese. A recent transplant to Portland, she enjoys discovering the niche parts of Portland. She loves to travel around Latin America and cook traditional Mexican food to share with family and friends. If you can’t find her doing any of these activities, she is probably in a library somewhere reading.

Grayson Windle
is a Milieu Therapist (SUN unit) and Special Education support teacher in the Partial Hospitalization Program at Kartini. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in Special Education (P-12) and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics Education from Central Washington University. He has taught in Middle and High School classrooms in a variety of subjects. Like most Portlanders, he enjoys spending time outside as well as playing video games and playing with his cat, Toga.

Kaitlin Crowell
is one of our Medical Assistants offering a smiling face at the front desk. She feels strongly about perseverance and looks for the positive in any situation, which she learned growing up in the foster care system. She plans to pursue her passion in American Sign Language (ASL) and will continue her work with children and adolescents. Kaitlin loves to spend time adventuring with her partner and pup, Molly, who is her pride and joy and looks forward to traveling to many interesting locations.

Mori Leveroni
is a Patient Account Representative at Kartini. She is a Northern California native and attended Portland State University with a focus in Communications. Mori’s passion for empowering youth started with her work in the nonprofit sector, where she advocated for changes in the legislature and education policy. She moved to Portland in 2018 and now enjoys exploring the city, cuddling with her hedgehog, Milo, and watching scary movies.

Dona Zavislan
is a Account Representative in our business office. A Colorado native Dona has a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in Food Science and Nutrition. She relocated to the Pacific Northwest five years ago to be closer to her daughter. Dona enjoys traveling, singing and practicing yoga.

LaJames Wilson
is a Medical Assistant at Kartini Clinic. He attended Portland State University with a focus on business communications. When he isn’t working he enjoys exercising, playing video games, and cuddling with his two cats Sencha and Remy. One of his passions is volunteering throughout his community and helping others.

Sophia Ahmad
is one of Kartini’s Bilingual Intake/HR Administrative Assistants. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a focus on Environmental Studies and Spanish. She is currently in the process of becoming a Certified Healthcare Interpreter™. She has had the pleasure of traveling throughout Abya Yala practicing her Spanish, dancing and capturing moments on film. Native to Portland, she enjoys staying connected to the community through contact improvisation, playing Capoeira and collaborating with other artists.

Ashley D. Guthrie MT-BC/L
is one of our Milieu Therapists in the Partial Hospitalization Program at Kartini Clinic. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neuroscience as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music Humanities from UC San Diego. Ashley also received her Bachelor in Music Therapy from Pacific University and is a Licensed and Board Certified Music Therapist. She completed specialization training certifying her as a Neurologic Music Therapist. Ashley has clinical experience serving patients in acute mental health, substance abuse, individuals and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, various neurological disorders, TBI, Alzheimer’s and more. She enjoys songwriting, playing guitar, singing, and spending time with her senior dog Mika.

Dana Abarca Barahona
is a cook and Kartini Clinic’s Kitchen Assistant. Dana has worked in Portland’s culinary community and farming network since 2012. Dana earned a BFA in Design and Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has a keen interest in language, empathy and methods of preserving biological material.
